Exothermic welding guide

There are several ways to tie wire cables. Mechanical bonds are very common in industry, however thermite or exothermic welds may bring you further opportunities.

Some chemical reactions can release large amounts of energy in the form of heat, they are said to be exothermic. This thermal energy can be very intense and the temperature can rise up to several thousand degrees.
It is used to melt filler metal and perform a weld between several cables. The molecular union of these welds makes them high quality electrical bonds and bonds with high mechanical properties.

Process

The action of the ignition box provides the activation energy necessary for the exothermic reaction, which
will cause the filler metal to melt.
This will flow into the crucible until it comes into contact with the cables and melts them to achieve the weld.

Advantages of exothermic welds on the bond

  • The connection is reliable and durable. Molecular bonds between metals are irreversible.
  • The conductivity of the bond is optimal.
  • The service life of the link is equal to that of the earthing network
  • Once the mold is in place, the process can be repeated many times.
  • Does not suffer from the passage of current and repetitive discharges.
